1999-2000 SCOUTING YEAR STARTS!

Welcome to All!

To all returning and new Scouting youth, parents and guardians, welcome to the new Scouting year with the 4th Orleans Fallingbrook Scouting Group.

We are one of the largest and most vibrant Groups in Ontario, with an excellent, well trained and enthusiastic leadership, and an active and diverse group of youth.

This season is our 13th year of offering quality Scouting programs to the youth of Fallingbrook. Lucky 13!!

In speaking with the Section Leaders there are fun, exciting and challenging programs planned for our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, and everyone should have another great time this Year!

APPLE DAY

The annual Scout Apple Day is scheduled for Friday October 1st and Saturday October 2nd.

We have our members with our apples at the Fallingbrook Plaza and Ray Friel only, and we work in shifts so that the time burden is not great on the youth or their parents/guardians.

This is a major fundraising event for Scouts Canada and for our Group and we appreciate your support of this very worthwhile event that also teaches youth community service, public relations, and raises the profile of Scouting in our Orleans Community.

Group Campfire

The first Group Campfire for the entire 4th Orleans Scouting Group will be held Wednesday October 13 at 6:30 PM in the back field at Fallingbrook School. This is always a fun event with an impressive fire, and songs and skits performed by the youth. Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend to see their talented youth in action. A light snack will be provided afterward, so please bring your mug to the campfire. We will also be collecting one item of non perishable food per Scouting family for the Cumberland Food Bank at the Campfire.

Fundraising

We have a number of events planned for the year, such as Apple Day, Scoutrees, Popcorn Sale, and a Bottle Drive. Any suggestions are welcome, and please speak with any Leader for your valuable input.

As you know, Scouting is a community based, non profit, charitable youth organization. Cumberland City Council has imposed user fees on Scouting for using City administered facilities, and last year (98-99) raised our rent 25%.

This year the rental fees were raised by 15% for the Community Room at the School and Ray Friel, 33% for the Gyms, and 600% for using a Classroom at our school. We have 9 Sections of Youth meeting, in 5 locations, so the costs are now significant, and we must focus our attention on ways to pay the increased rent.

Scouts Canada has not raised the registration fees we pay, and the 4th Orleans Fallingbrook registration fee for our youth members has not increased either.

Please support our efforts to keep Scouting affordable.

Regardless, we will continue to have our Youth work for the betterment of our Community, with last year alone seeing our youth doing such volunteer work for our community as: hiking trails clean up; visits to our senior citizens; over 1000 trees planted at Petrie Island; Thanksgiving Food drive for Food Bank; food drive for Cumberland resource Centre; Remembrance Day participation; donation to Orleans Legion; special collection from the youth to World Disaster Relief Fund; recycling parade march, and many other services.

Thanks!

Your ideas, suggestions, comments and attendance at any meeting/event are always welcome! Parent/guardian assistance as volunteers and leaders is always needed, and please respond positively when you receive a friendly request for assistance from your youth’s Leader.

Thank you for your encouragement and support.

Have a Great Scouting Year!
