Scouting Welcomes 2000 For Adventure!

Sept/Dec 1999

The first half of the Scouting Year was a great success for the 4th Orleans Group.

Registration was strong, with new members joining in January, so we must be doing activities attractive to the youth of our community, as the vast majority of our new members are friends of existing Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers.

From the two Group Campfires, (including a Winter/Holiday campfire without snow!) we were able to gather together as an entire Group to share songs, skits, cheers, and refreshments. With the food donations from families we were able to make significant donations to the Cumberland Resource Centre. Thank you to everyone who was able to make a donation.

APPLE DAY

This was a great success on a rainy day thanks to the large number of youth, leaders and parents who were able to assist. We also had wonderful support from the Fallingbrook Plaza merchants, with a special note to Loeb Fallingbrook who were again so helpful in obtaining the apples for us. The Apple Day badges were distributed late this year, but were given out in January.

Popcorn Campaign

Thank you to all who supported this fund raiser. This year the rental rate for our meeting places charged to us by the City of Cumberland has been increased by 15%, and the Board of Education by 500%, so your assistance is vital. We expect another increase in the rental rate again next year, so any assistance and creative suggestions are always appreciated! The popcorn was good as well!

Baden-Powell Dinner

(this is a great event to attend!)

 When: Sunday Feb 20/00 6:00-7:30PM

Where: Ray Friel Centre, Upstairs

Cost: $5.00 per ticket -( Max $20. Per family)

Why: Celebration of Scout/Guide Week world-wide, as Feb 21 is BP’s Birthday, and we honour Lord and Lady Baden-Powell as founders of Scouts and Guides.

Who: All youth and their families are invited for a pasta meal followed by entertainment.

This is put on by our own Venturer Company, and has been a lot of fun in the last couple of years with this format.

Coming Events

Besides The Baden-Powell Dinner, look for more hikes, camps, Winter Beaveree, Cub Camp, Scout Camps, campfires, special visits, crafts and activities to keep the year interesting.

The year end Group Camp in June promises to be another fantastic time! This year, beside the St Lawrence River!

Special thanks to the Parents/caregivers and all our very special leaders who devote so much of their free time to the youth of our community.

Please check out our Web site  'http://4thorleans.cjb.net'.

Scouting has been in Canada for over 90 years under a variety of challenges, and we will continue to deliver quality programs to our youth for their fun and development.

Your ideas, suggestions, comments as well as your attendance at any meeting/event is always  welcome.  Parent/guardian assistance as volunteers and leaders is always needed, and please respond positively when the need arises.

Thank you for your encouragement and support, and as we are still searching for a number of our Group tents, we would ask any one who has one in their garage or basement to please return it to any leader. Thanks!

Have a Great Scouting Winter and Spring!!
