4th Orleans Fallingbrook Scout Group |
Youth & Leaders Survive Another Scout Year!
Jan/May 1999
The winter of 1999 was a great one for Scouting activities for the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers for our Group. All sections embraced the season with Holiday and Winter related activities including camps, sleepovers, games, hikes, visits, community service and other interesting and informative outings, as well as active events, and crafts held during our meetings. The 4th Orleans Group does not stay indoors, but puts the OUT in ScOUTing! Congrats to Scouts Mark Pavey and Ryan Callaghan who are completing their Chief Scout Award!SCOUTREES
This is the annual day when all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, Rovers, and their families get out into the Spring air and plant trees right across Canada!. We have been doing this for over 10 years and have planted over 60 million trees free of charge!.This year we are planting 1,000 trees at Petrie Island (at the foot of Trim Rd) on Saturday May 1st, from 9:00-11:00 AM.
This is a fund raising activity for our Group and Scouts Canada, and pledge form kits and bookmarks have been distributed to all youth. Please support this most worthy activity, and join us with a bucket, spade and appropriate clothing for an hour in the outdoors to help replenish our ice damaged environment. It is also a good opportunity to visit the Petrie Island if you have not done so previously, to see where much Scouting activity including hikes and canoeing is undertaken.
Crests will be distributed to all "planters", with special certificates for those raising $50. And hip pouches for those raising over $120.
See you there, rain or shine!
YEAR END CAMP
After the success of last years 4th Orleans Camp, there was overwhelming support to do it again! We will be at Fitzroy Provincial Park in the Group Camping Area and we are to confirm the booking for either the last weekend in May or 1st in June.
This is a wonderful opportunity to have our youth engage in activities as a group, and this year the theme is "Nautical Nineties" so we will see many activities based on this idea.
More info to follow from each section.
COMING EVENTS
Group Campfire and Advancement Ceremony. This is especially important for all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers who will be Swimming Up/Leaping Up/Advancing to the next level of Scouting. All parents/caregivers are encouraged to attend. It starts at 6:30 PM Tuesday May 11th, outdoors at Fallingbrook School, followed by snacks and refreshments.
GYM RENTAL FEES Cumberland has informed us that our rental fees for the meeting gyms, and cafeteria at Fallingbrook School will increase by 15% next year (effective July 99) after our Cumberland Council approved the increase in February. We presently pay approx $3,000 per year for the youth to meet now, after a 25% increase in our rent this year. We have also been informed that there is consideration of a 700% (seven hundred) increase for the following year. We will keep you informed of events, but the future does not look encouraging for Scouting in Fallingbrook under present arrangements.*****
Special thanks this year to Jim Elders, Sandy Elders and their very active Scouting and Guiding family for their involvement and support for the Scouting movement in our community. The Elders are moving to Winnipeg, and their services as leaders, stitchers, treasurer and Group Chair were very much appreciated.
*****
Thank you to all the Parents/caregivers and all our very special leaders who devote so much of their precious free time to the youth of our community.

See you at Year End Camp!
