BEAVER BIRTHDAY BASH WAS A BLAST

One Group Commissioner said “All the reports from my Beavers indicate it was a very successful event” and a Leader attending saidThis is the type of event that will create a lifetime of memories for all who participated. Three days later and I still have two children spouting off song verses and recounting their experiences from the weekend…these are two children with a collective attention span of about 30 seconds!!!”

306 youth and 241 leaders and parents from 41 colonies representing all ten Areas took part in the Beaver Birthday Bash, Voyageur Council’s first council wide Beaver sleepover on May 14-15th at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa.

On Saturday the Beavers began by checking out military vehicles, fire trucks, a Tae Kwon Do demonstration, and creating a mural.  After Opening saw a performance by Mary Lambert, crafts, parachute games, a wet sponge toss activity, Leader dunk, the military pipe band, campfire, birthday cupcakes, and a bedtime movie.  Sunday brought a treasure hunt, bowling, obstacle course, presentation by Mad Science, Scouts Own, and Closing before having lunch and heading home.  Everyone left with a loot bag with one Leader saying his child "didn’t finish exploring all the goodies in it until we were almost home in Ottawa".

Special THANKS go to the amazing organizing team of Steve Bernique, Joan Smith, Ken Fisher, Debra Hull, Don Spicer, Eva Bandla, Dave Parker, Mary Cooke, Joel Vansnick, Susie Page, Roland Gravel, and Pat Osborne, Canadian Forces Base Petawawa, the Base kitchen and everyone who lent a hand to make it all possible.

Yours in Scouting,

Grace Jones, Council Beaveree Chair

MEMBERSHIP MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The days are counting down to June 30th to enable groups the Early Registration Fee of $95. According to MMS many groups have taken advantage of this 'deal' and renewed registrations on existing members returning next year in MMS. New members can be entered as 'prospective' and confirmation will be done by the office once the registration forms are received along with the interview, reference check and Police Records Check documentation also due by June 30th.
Please note: if a member has missed a year and not been registered for the 2004-2005 season the system will treat them as new (except for the PRC). If you try and register the member now the 2004-2005 season will be entered. Simply send those members' paperwork in and we will treat them as new members and registration will be completed by the Council office.
To review in full the procedure for the Early Registration Fee:
1. one cheque (made out to Scouts Canada Voyageur Council) for the membership fees of all members whose registration paperwork is in the package (no cheques may be post-dated beyond June 30th;
2. a summary sheet (either produced through use of the MMS, or manually written) listing all the members whose registration paperwork is included in the package; and
3. signed Scouts Canada documentation for those members being registered (registration form, VRAD screening form, completed original PRC form). If you are unable to get a PRC by June 30th simply attach a note produced by the police services indicating that the PRC is in process.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may haveJune 30th is closer than you think.

OPE UPDATE

Thanks!!!  As the Scouting year draws to a close, we would like to extend our most sincere thanks to two special groups for their support to the camp during the past 10 months. Firstly to the dedicated and hardworking members of the OPE Rover Crew and Venturer Company who so generously volunteer their weekends to provide catering services to our user groups … thanks for a job very well done!  Secondly, to all the groups who have used the camp since September, thanks for the tremendous support to YOUR camp. The past year has seen a significant increase in bookings – a large number of long time users were back and an encouraging number of first time users was also noticeable. We hope to see you all back at OPE during the 2005/6 Scouting year.

Fall Bookings: The increased numbers mentioned above are already evident in the fall bookings, so if you wish to guarantee your group the dates and facilities you want, it is suggested that you book your fall and winter camps soon!
