IN THIS ISSUE - New Mission Statement/Annual General Meeting and Recognition
Evening/1st Annual Scout Winter Camp / Winterlude Festivities / Camp Opemikon
GONE HOME - The Region wishes to express their saddness in the passing of
the following members: Eldon Hunter, 8th Pembroke, on November 18th,
2000; Bill Wright, Carleton District, November 21st, 2000; Ben
Baylin, Group Committee Member, 39th Ottawa on December 24th, 2000;
Jacques Leduc, 1st Orleans Troop Scouter on January 8th, 2001.
FROM THE DESK OF THE COMMISH!! This year, Scout - Guide Week is set
for February 18th to 25th. Traditionally, during this time, we in Scouting take
the opportunity to say thank you to those who support our activities.
Service pins, Warrants of Appointment, Certificates of Appreciation, plaques and
Group crests are presented to Scouters, parents, Sponsor representatives,
business owners and councillors from our cities and towns for their support of
Scouting. A popular form of recognition is to make someone an honourary
member of our Group. This involves presentation of the Group necker.
The woggle given with this necker should be a neutral one. Perhaps one
that the youth have made at their meetings. If the individual being
recognized was a former Scouting member, then the Section coloured woggle for
the Section which they belonged would be appropriate. The Wood Badge I
woggle is not appropriate for presentation in these cases. This woggle is
in itself a symbol of another form of recognition known throughout the Scouting
world. It recognizes members who have completed the basic training.
It is a symbol of dedication to providing the best program to our youth through
personal development on the part of our members. It is not a symbol of
having provided support or resources. To practice what I preach, I wish to
say THANK YOU to each of our members for giving of your precious time to the
youth in the Scouting movement. We are lucky to have you.
- Marilyn
Johnson - Your Regional Commissioner
SPONSOR CERTIFICATES - Did you know that a certificate exists that you can
present to your Sponsor in recognition of their years of service? Contact
Lynn at the office to get yours.
