IN THIS ISSUE - Honours & Awards/Upcoming Events/Chief Scout's and Queen's Venturer Award Ceremony/Regional Cub Camp/Camp Opemikon Open House/Flotilla/CJ'01/White Tail Beaver Sleepover
GONE HOME - The Region wishes to express their sadness in the passing of the following members:  Gib Hammond, Medal of Merit recipient from the former Western Area on March 10th;  Jean Gillespie, Honorary Vice President, Voyageur Region, Assistant Cub Leader with the 8th Kingston Group and member of the 35th Limestone BP Guild, on Tuesday March 27;  Gerry Schaubs, Scouter with the 1st Manotick Group, Rideau District;  Sharon Davidson, Beaver Leader with the North Grenville Scout Group, Upper St. Lawrence Valley on April 16th.
FROM THE DESK OF THE COMMISH!!  Did you know that the United Nations has declared the year 2001 as the International Year of the Volunteer?  As your Regional Commissioner and one of over 2000 adult volunteers within our own Voyageur Region, I send to each of you, a heartfelt thank you, merci beaucoup.  Thank you for sharing your precious time and special talents with the youth in our Scouting movement.  Because of you, over 8,600 youth from Kingston to Deep River to Cornwall and in western Quebec are living the adventure.  So take a little time right now to extend your right arm high above your head, bend it at the elbow allowing your hand to fall just behind your shoulder and give yourself a hearty pat on the back!  But don't stop there.  Program Scouters remember to say "thank you" to parent helpers and junior leaders.  Group Committee members express your thanks to the section leadership teams, to your Sponsor and to the community for their support.  District Service teams remember to say thanks to those who assisted in your program activities this year.  THANK YOU - MERCI     - Marilyn Johnson - Your Regional Commissioner
HONOURS & AWARDS - "The best thing to do behind a person's back is to pat it." - Franklin P. Jones Congratulations to the following Scouters:  Scouter Rob Petten, Nepean District for receiving the Medal of Merit "for especially good service to Scouting";  Scouter Paul St. Jean, 109th Ottawa Group Committee Chairman, Rideau District for receiving the Certificate of Commendation.  Anyone can initiate an award - if you believe a person should be considered for an outstanding service award, start the process now.  Contact your local Honours and Awards committee to see if someone has started an application or volunteer to start the process. It is well worth the satisfaction of seeing a fellow Scouter or youth receive such an honour.
